Elite Construction Rentals

Tom Devivo ’77 is an accountant with experience as a controller at Elite Construction Rentals in East Hartford, CT. He received both his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and in 1998 his MBA in Finance from UConn. Tom has spent many years working in the transportation field having worked for four bus companies, a truck leasing company and a car leasing company. He has also worked for three non-profit organizations and for Subway. Although he has mainly held accounting positions over his career, in 2011 he decided to change careers and worked for two years as sales representative for Peter Pan Bus Lines blending his accounting and people skills to cost out and sell bus charters from $250 to $75,000 each.
The joy of Tom’s life is helping others and he has been a volunteer firefighter, Lions Club member, high school and youth sports volunteer and an active member of his church.
Tom is looking forward to new opportunities both professionally and personally that will be made possible through his commitment to life-long learning. An avid reader of non-fiction books and listener to several podcasts a week he is looking forward to sharing with students in the mentoring program the activities and people that have enriched his life. His wife Laurie is also a UConn grad and they enjoy volunteering together, traveling and hiking. Tom’s hobbies include gardening with his tractor, biking and reading.

“I have much more to accomplish in my life, but one of my joys is working with college students as a mentor and listening to them about their life and dreams, briefly sharing some of my life’s experiences and using those conversations to address the student’s questions, suggest ideas that will lead to a fulfilling life and foster a friendship.”
