Thomas J. Marshella is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Corporate Finance in the Americas. Tom previously served as a Team Managing Director for the diversified manufacturing, construction, homebuilding, gaming, lodging, and restaurant sectors. In addition, he has led Moody’s Leveraged Finance efforts since late 1996.
Tom’s international experience includes serving as Chief Credit and Administrative Officer of Moody’s Sydney office. He also headed infrastructure and project finance initiatives throughout Asia Pacific. Prior U.S. responsibilities included heading global electric utility analysis. In this capacity, Tom participated in rating privatized entities throughout Europe, Asia, and Australasia. Tom was instrumental in assigning the first public debt ratings to project financings, particularly those related to electricity generation. He was also involved in rating the “Hero Asia” project, the first cross-border capital markets project financing. Tom has been a keynote speaker at industry conferences including United Nations hearings on “Financing For Development”. He is also on the board of directors for the Master of Science in Financial Risk Management program at The University of Connecticut. He is on the Investor Board of Advisors of Market News International.
Prior to joining Moody’s, Tom was a credit analyst with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and an auditor for Ernst & Young. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Tom is a graduate of Tulane University with an M.B.A. in finance and a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in accounting.
