Erasmo Giambona is the Michael J. Falcone Associate Professor in Real Estate Finance and Director of the James D. Kuhn Center for Real Estate at Syracuse University, Whitman School of Management. Prior to joining Syracuse University, Dr. Giambona was a tenured associate professor of finance at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He has been a visiting professor at Yale University, University of Southern California, and Bocconi University (Milan, Italy). Erasmo is an internationally recognized scholar in real estate and corporate finance. His research explores a wide variety of topics in real estate finance, housing, liquidity management, capital structure, financial distress, risk management, hedge funds activism, political risk, and is published in leading international journals. Erasmo has received the “Outstanding Referee Award” from the journal of Real Estate Economics and his research has received “best paper awards” from the American Real Estate Urban Economics Association – International, the Financial Management Association – Europe, and the Brazilian Econometric Society. His recent papers on hedge fund activism, political risk, and bankruptcy have been featured in the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation, the financial press, and practitioner outlets.
Dr. Giambona’s research has been funded by the Ministry of Scientific Research in Italy and the Real Estate Research Institute in the U.S. Erasmo is an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Intermediation and the International Review of Law and Economics, a past fellow of the Tinbergen Institute in the Netherlands, a former board member of the European Real Estate Society and is actively involved with academic organizations in the field of real estate and finance in the U.S. and Europe (including the American Real Estate Urban Economics Association, the American Finance Association, the Western Finance Association, and the European Finance Association).
Erasmo has created a governance-index for publicly-listed members of the European Public Real Estate Association, contributes to annual surveys on the outlook of commercial real estate markets, and has consulted for large real estate firms (such as Unibail-Rodamco, one of the largest public REITs in Europe).
Professor Giambona earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Connecticut in 2003, a Ph.D. in Business Economics from the University of Catania (Italy) in 1999, and a B.S. in Business Economics from the University of Palermo (Italy) in 1994.
