Tyler Cormier '17

Asset Management Associate

TA Realty

Tyler Cormier ’17 graduated from HS in CT and found himself with options to go to college in CT, PA, MA, NH, or RI. Ultimately, he decided to go to UConn, and it couldn’t have been a better decision. Going to an in-state school with ~15 of his high school classmates made it a very easy transition. Tyler knew that he needed to challenge himself, though, and not get too comfortable.

During his time at UConn, Tyler balanced a 20+ hour a week job and Greek Life, alongside his education. He worked in the Student Union as an AV Technician (1 year) and Building Manager (2 years), after working in a dining hall 1st semester of his Freshman year. Getting involved in multiple larger groups on campus (BCLC, Student Union jobs, Greek Life, Intramurals, Class Projects) was a great experience and he recommends every student push the envelope and try things outside of their comfort zone. Tyler had no experience in Audio/Visual work, but he looked at it as an opportunity to learn something new and be surrounded by a great group of coworkers.

He entered UConn as a Finance major and graduated with such degree, but it took some digging to find out what he really wanted to do. He wants all students to know that not knowing what you want to do for the first few years of college is fine! Tyler joined the Real Estate Society Freshman year and was exposed to that industry early on. It was not until the summer after his Junior year, though, that he had an internship in Commercial Real Estate and truly knew that was what he wanted to pursue.

Tyler’s first job out of school was with Altus Group in NJ. Within a year, he was working in their Luxembourg office for the summer of 2018. He received the opportunity to work there for the entire year of 2019, but ultimately did not see it as the right fit and ended up moving to Boston to work for TA Realty in 2019. Tyler has been there for over 5 years now, first in Valuations and now in Asset Management.

Throughout his short career thus far, Tyler has learned three things. Get out of your comfort zone, fill your time with unique experiences, and travel whenever possible. He looks forward to being a part of this program this year! Go Huskies!
