John Malfettone is a Senior Managing Director of Clayton Dubilier & Rice, one of the oldest and a top ten leveraged buyout private equity firm. John serves a number of roles at CD&R including Chief Compliance Officer and Portfolio Procurement and Risk Manager, where he works with the portfolio companies that CD&R owns to reduce purchasing costs and provide comprehensive insurance coverage.
Previously, John was Partner, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for Oak Hill Capital Partners, a middle market private equity firm. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at GE Capital in various senior management roles including Corporate Controller; Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer; and Managing Director of GE Equity where he ran the Commercial Service Business, which profitably invested over $1 billion. He also served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for MacDermid Inc., a New York stock exchange-listed specialty chemical company, and previously was an Audit Partner at KPMG Peat Marwick in the Stamford and White Plains offices where he ran the Computer Audit Practice.
John has served on numerous corporate boards across an array of industries, primarily in an audit committee chair role, including Duane Reade, a retail drug store; Juice Plus, a nutraceutical company; Trade-out, a technology company;Endura, a supply chain software business; TruckLite, a manufacturer of truck parts; and Service America, a corporate food service business. As Audit Committee Chair, he led two fraud investigations, one of which led to the conviction of a corporate CEO.
John will be the University of Connecticut Foundation Board of Directors acting as Co-Chair of the Athletic Development Committee beginning in 2018 and serves on the Finance and Audit Committees, having previously chaired the Finance Committee. Additionally, he will assume the role of Board Chair for the Foundation beginning in October of 2018. He served as a board member of the David Wright Foundation and the Cardinal Shehan Center, an inner city youth center in Bridgeport, where he received the Golden Tee Award in 2016 in recognition of his outstanding service to the Center. He also served as the Treasurer of Meals on Wheels in Stamford. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and formerly, the Connecticut Society of CPA’s. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Connecticut where he graduated magna cum laude in 1977. While at UConn, he served on the University Board of Governors as Co-Chair of the Special Events Committee and was responsible for bringing entertainment to the Storrs Campus that included Meatloaf, as the star of National Lampoon, Robert Klein the comedian, and Roller Derby.
John and his wife, Rina reside in Trumbull and have 5 children; JJ and his wife, Carleen Costy residing, in Chicago; Michael who resides in Austin; twins Joe and Marissa and their spouses, Nora Weiss and Chris Faford, residing in Milford and Chicago respectively, and Matthew who resides in Trumbull. Additionally, they have a 7-month-old granddaughter, Aya.
