BI Analytics Product Owner

This will be an influential role on the Charter Business Intelligence (“BI”) Analytics team, which
is responsible for developing innovative products using Charter BI data and delivering effective
analysis of high-priority business issues. These products, after development, are meant to be
transitioned to other organizations in BI for long-term ownership, freeing up the BI Analytics
team to focus on the next item on their work roadmap.
We are looking for a smart, visionary, articulate product owner for the innovative products
developed by the BI Analytics team – blended with the ability to track the development of these
products with organized, disciplined project management / tracking techniques.

This person will be responsible for:

• Managing a backlog of features through the request, parking lot, prioritization,
execution, and delivery lifecycle for a number of data analysis products.
• Managing the evolution of these products through the development process and
transition of them to established organizations in BI for long-term ownership. In order
to do this, they will need to build effective relationships with and the capability to
influence the leaders of these target organizations.
• Working hand-in-hand with the VP of BI Analytics to develop repeatable Frameworks
and Processes to manage the entire lifecycle of analytics work from conception / vision,
through development to a product, finally ending in transition to long-term ownership.
• Developing strong expertise in Charter’s data and business, and the suite of reporting
tools offered across Charter BI.
• Developing influential, effective relationships with key internal customers and users of
Charter BI products. Helping to negotiate features and roadmap of innovative analytic
products with these customers, and influence broad adoption of these products once
they are developed into working prototypes.

The ideal candidate will be oriented to making a long-term investment in learning about

Charter Business Intelligence (“BI”) is an approx. 250-person organization across Charter’s
Stamford, Charlotte, and St. Louis locations responsible for building data warehouse, data
management, and data reporting solutions across the key operating organizations of Charter,
including Customer Ops, Field Ops, Product, Network Ops, Marketing, Sales, and Executive
Management. Charter BI Analytics is a team within BI, comprising approximately 15 personnel
based in the Stamford and Charlotte organizations, primarily responsible for creating and
delivering innovative use cases, analysis, and products using advanced analytic / data-science
techniques applied to the broader set of BI data, in order to improve Charter business
operations and effectiveness.

Requirements:

• Project management – task tracking, prioritization, issue resolution.
• Product management – managing features in the context of customers, the
development and analysis teams, and other stakeholders. Learning about customer
needs, translating into features. Managing customer expectations and satisfaction.
• Communications – excellent communication skills across a variety of contexts and
settings is critical. Professional documentation skills in presentation (Powerpoint) and
narrative format. Excellent public-speaking, interpersonal, and product demonstration
skills.
• Business Analytics Background – experience with data and analysis in the context of
business processes and operations. Ability to quickly develop expertise in Charter’s data
and business operations, and the suite of reporting tools and products that expose this
information to decision-makers.
• Synthesis – ability to see broader picture and synthesize solutions to complex, crossorganizational needs.
• Pluses: Agile software product-ownership experience. Experience working with Data
Science and Analytics teams. Experience with cable / telecommunication operations
and processes. MBA.
Key Interview Questions / Artifacts:
Candidate will be asked to demonstrate the tools and processes that they used to manage a
software product, from both a project (execution) and a features / capability (product)
perspective.
Candidate will be asked to describe, and ideally bring artifacts to demonstrate, a
professional situation where they took a complicated, multi-faceted organizational or
process problem, synthesized a solution – resulting in a process or framework – and
communicated that solution to a variety of stakeholders.
